The management of Nosak Group has demonstrated commitment in capacity building as it organized a two-day training workshop for security personnel across the Group. The workshop, which held at the Nosak Learning Center in Amuwo Industrial Layout, Lagos was focused on the overview of security issues with the legal implications in Nigeria.
In his opening remarks, the Group Executive Director (GED), Operations and Production, Osaheni Ogunbor stated that the training and retraining was important to enable the personnel to understand their roles by enhancing their effectiveness and efficiency in the daily discharge of their duties.
He stressed that their role in the Group is very strategic and capacity building remains a very critical area of manpower development to enhance their skills on the dynamics of security. “As security personnel your relevance cannot be over emphasized because of the level of intelligence required to be sensitive to the environment and the people. You must be vigilant and stay at alert to secure yourself and others around you in your line of duties”, he said.
Delivering his lecture on the theme, the District Police Officer (DPO), Festac Police Division, Lagos, CSP Obong J. Okon pointed that the act of security is as old a man, which is the job of everybody carried out consciously or unconsciously. He said to the officers, “In executing your duties as a security personnel, you have to be proactive and not reactive. You must always take initiatives to prevent the loss of lives and property”.
The DPO charged the personnel to embrace new innovations in their operations to function properly with the rising trends of security across the country. “In your area of operation, it is important to understand the environment and know the people, their way of life and other peculiarities of the environment. You must pay attention to details and be very observant. Be sharp, agile, smart and of sane mind in order to be effective in the discharge of your duties”, he emphasized.
He went on to explain that the job of a security officer is having ‘common sense that is not common’. “You must be careful in your actions by knowing your right. Also understand and know when to speak, how to speak and what to say at every point in time because you are an authority”.
The personnel were also trained on other basic topics, which included strategic fire safety management and emergency response with practical session of putting out fire in an emergency.
